- formal region(uniform region or homogeneous region) area in which everyone shares in common one or more distinctive characteristics
- functional region(nodal region) an area organized around a node or focal point
- vernacular region(perceptual region) an area that people believe exists as a part of their cultural identify
- characteristics may be predominant but not universal
- regions of culture
- culture is to a body of customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms that together constitute and distinct tradition of a group of people
- origin of the word, culture, Latin cultus
- geographers study both definitions of culture, culture is what people care about and take care of
- the scale is the relationship between the portion of the earth being studied and earth as a whole
- globalization is a force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope
